Intermediate English

Full Year Class; 90 minutes

Middle School English

Students will learn the fundamentals of the English language and literature. Students will grow in their appreciation for a variety of forms of literary works, including short stories, poetry, essays, dramas, and novels. They will examine and practice the modes of writing, e.g., narration, description, exposition, and persuasion, in composing paragraphs, essays, and stories. Students will write a minimum of 4 formal essays during the year. Instruction in standard usage and vocabulary development will support the students’ writing.

Students are encouraged to take this intermediate English course for two years in sequence. The literature selections are rotated so that specific material is new each year. Taking this English class twice during the intermediate years provides students with much-needed practice in writing well and with exposure and review of literary concepts and terms, and grammar and usage.
